Our choice fell on the <strong>W Muscat<\/strong>, located beachfront in Shatti Al Qurum. Suffice it to say, this family stay with Jean-Maximilien, Alexandra, and Arthur will remain one of the highlights of our trip.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The W Muscat is part of the Marriott Bonvoy collection. It is an excellent candidate for using points, especially for families. The hotel features 279 rooms and suites and occupies an ideal beachfront location in Shatti Al Qurum. Note: downtown Muscat is ten minutes away by car, and the international airport is approximately 25 minutes away. The Royal Opera House Muscat is located right next door, making it a perfect base for exploring the city.   <\/p>\n\n<p>The architecture blends bold contemporary design with touches of Omani inspiration. Blue geometric patterns, mashrabiya screens, and sculpted walls recall local craftsmanship. The entrance is spectacular, with its bright pink W logo and modern architecture. The valet helped us with our suitcases, and we headed to reception. With two children tired from the road, this kind of small attention makes all the difference.   <\/p>\n\n<p>Check-in was quick. We had been upgraded to a family suite, and the front desk agent took the time to explain to Alexandra and Arthur that the towels by the pool were complimentary. The lobby is striking: black marble, a designer ceiling with LED lighting, and a wall of interactive screens. Mention the occasion (family vacation, birthday) without demanding anything. Traveling during the off-season also helps a lot.  <\/p>\n\n\t<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the_family_room\">The family room<\/h2>\n\n<p>Our suite was spacious, with a king bed for Jean-Maximilien and me, and an additional sofa bed for Alexandra and Arthur. The children were delighted: their own &#8220;little corner&#8221; right next to the lounge. Plan to request the configuration in advance if you are traveling with children\u2014not all rooms are modular.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The design is bold. A headboard with blue geometric patterns, a circular rug with black and white patterns, and gold armchairs. It is not the style I would choose for my own home, but it works here. A circular freestanding bathtub, blue tiles with geometric patterns inspired by Islamic art, an arched mirror, and veined marble in the shower. Alexandra wanted to take her bath in that tub on the very first night, which says it all!  <\/p>\n\n<p>The walk-in closet is generous, with wooden storage and drawers featuring geometric patterns. The gold geometric patterns on a black background are inspired by Omani craftsmanship, but with a contemporary twist. Upon arrival, we found a welcome tray with fresh fruit, fine chocolates, and pastries. It offered a view of the gardens and the pool. We had coffee there every morning while Alexandra and Arthur had fun counting the palm trees. It feels more like a beach resort than a simple hotel pool. This is where the children spent most of their days. There are plenty of sun loungers, and we never had to rush to reserve one in the morning.   <\/p>\n\n<p>The atmosphere is festive without being noisy. From time to time, a coordinator starts an activity in the pool\u2014aqua aerobics, games for children. Alexandra participated twice, while Arthur watched from the side. Servers pass by regularly with drinks and fresh coconuts. Note: we received a welcome voucher for two coconuts at the Wet Deck bar. The beach is not a white-sand Caribbean beach\u2014it is more of a long seaside promenade frequented by Omanis and families. For us, it was perfect. The children flew kites, and we walked until sunset.   <\/p>\n\n<p>Note: the beach does not have postcard-perfect turquoise water. But the atmosphere is well worth the detour. People play volleyball, badminton, and have picnics. Coffee in the sun, a sea breeze, palm trees: it sets the tone for the day. Alexandra and Arthur devoured pancakes while Jean-Maximilien and I took our time with a coffee. It is one of those simple moments that stays in your memory for a long time.   <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the_bar_and_the_gym\">The Bar and the Gym<\/h2>\n\n<p>The hotel&#8217;s lounge bar is another highlight. Curved benches, soft lighting, and a view of the sea. We had a drink there one evening while the children watched a movie in the room. It is decent but not exceptional\u2014a few structural pillars make it feel a bit crowded. The spa is more convincing, located in a separate pavilion with traditional Omani architecture.
