The latter is very well known, but it&#8217;s not a country; <strong>Bali<\/strong> is part of Indonesia! <\/p>\n<p>Most visitors to Indonesia only visit <strong>Bali<\/strong>, so there is sometimes confusion about the island&#8217;s status.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230701&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Bali: The Must-Sees&#8221; el_id=&#8221;bali_the_must-sees&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a sample itinerary for <strong>Bali <\/strong>, with a good combination of culture, temples, beaches, greenery and <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/beautiful-landscapes-points\/\">beautiful landscapes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ubud: 3 nights<\/li>\n<li>Jimbaran and Uluwatu: 2 nights<\/li>\n<li>Gili Islands: 3 nights<\/li>\n<li>Nusa Penida: 2 nights<\/li>\n<li>Seminyak or Canggu: 1 night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The order shown is important in terms of travel logistics. Arriving at the airport, you start by basing yourself in central <strong>Bali<\/strong> at Ubud, before exploring Jimbaran in the south of the island. From here, you can take a boat to the Gili Islands to the east, and return via Nusa Penida to Seminyak, not too far from the airport.  <\/p>\n<p>My personal favourites are Ubud and Nusa Penida.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230717&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Ubud and Its Surroundings&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;ubud_and_its_surroundings&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>Ubud is located in the heart of <strong>Bali<\/strong> and serves as a base for visiting the surrounding area.<\/p>\n<p>Lempuyang Temple is best known for its &#8220;Gateway to Heaven&#8221; which is perfectly aligned with the Agung volcano in the background. The light of the rising sun on this temple makes for particularly <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/tutorials\/travel-photos\/\">beautiful pictures<\/a>; for this I suggest you to go there very early.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230699&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>However, there is no mass of water in front of the temple doors for reflection as can sometimes be seen on social networks; the image is created with a mirror!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_message]<\/p>\n<p>You will all need to put on a sarong to explore this sacred place, no matter what you are wearing. Shoulders must also be covered when visiting the site.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_message][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Then, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/fr\/bali\/palais-eaux-bali\/?aid=101389\">Tirta Gangga<\/a> is a former royal palace of magnificent water fields where you can see giant water lilies and huge goldfish. A little further on is Pura <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/fr\/bali\/visite-centre-bali\/?aid=101389\">Tirta Empul<\/a>, a water temple where you can watch the locals perform their purification rituals. <\/p>\n<p>If you feel like visiting another of <strong>Bali&#8217;<\/strong>s impressive temples, I&#8217;d turn to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/fr\/bali\/randonnee-sekumpul-ulun-danu-bratan\/?aid=101389\">Pura Ulun Danu Bratan<\/a>, north of Ubud. It is picturesque and located on a lake.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230705&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230731&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>On your 2nd day in Ubud, take a short hike to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/fr\/bali\/volcan-batur-lever-soleil\/?aid=101389\">Mount Batur to catch the sunrise<\/a>. The views from the top of this volcano are majestic when the first rays break through the sky as we eat our lunch.<\/p>\n<p>The climb takes around 2 hours, depending on your level of fitness, and is obviously done in the dark. Expect to leave Ubud at around 2.30 am. If hiking isn&#8217;t your cup of tea, the alternative is to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/fr\/bali\/balade-4x4-volcan-kintamani-lever-soleil\/?aid=101389\">ride in a jeep<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;189532&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>In the afternoon, after a massage or a nap to recover from waking up very early to climb Mount Batur, don&#8217;t miss the rice terraces of Tegallalang to the east or Jatiluwih to the northwest. You&#8217;re free to walk around and when you gaze upon it, you&#8217;ll think &#8220;this is <strong>Bali<\/strong>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;189504&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Finally, in Ubud itself, you won&#8217;t miss the opportunity to see monkeys everywhere. In fact, there&#8217;s a sacred monkey sanctuary worth a visit (the <em>Ubud Monkey Forest<\/em>), but monkeys also roam the town. The sanctuary is more than just a tourist attraction: it&#8217;s also a place for wildlife research and conservation. <\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_message]<\/p>\n<p>Be careful with your belongings, monkeys are kleptomaniacs.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_message][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>For a local market experience in <strong>Bali<\/strong>, take a trip to the Ubud Traditional Art Market and its many narrow streets; you&#8217;ll find more authentic items than in Kuta.<\/p>\n<p>Before leaving Ubud, take time to enjoy a traditional Balinese dance performance or a flower bath at a spa.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Uluwatu and Jimbaran&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;uluwatu_and_jimbaran&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The Uluwatu region is located on the Bukit Badung peninsula in the south of <strong>Bali<\/strong>, and boasts splendid cliffs overlooking the Indian Ocean, as well as magnificent beaches.<\/p>\n<p>At the western end of the peninsula lies the Pura Luhur Ulwatu temple, a superb place to watch the sunset and the waves hitting the walls; the building is not as impressive as its counterparts in <strong>Bali<\/strong>, but its location is magnificent.<\/p>\n<p>Every evening, the traditional Balinese dance show takes place at the Uluwatu temple.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230703&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230735&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>To relax, take a trip to Jimbaran Bay or Padang Padang beach, which became very famous following the success of the film Eat, Pray, Love.<\/p>\n<p>The seafood restaurants in Jimbaran are also very tasty, and I enjoyed strolling along the waterfront at the end of the day.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The Gili Islands&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;the_gili_islands&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The atmosphere in <strong>Bali<\/strong> is more hectic, as it is very touristy: a short trip to the Gili Islands may be just the thing for a change of scenery.<\/p>\n<p>These islands are famous for their white-sand beaches and can be reached by speedboat, which will take around 2 hours from <strong>Bali<\/strong> at a cost of $20 to $30 per person. Public ferries are much cheaper, but you&#8217;ll lose a lot of time. <\/p>\n<p>There are three islands that offer different atmospheres:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Gili Air<\/li>\n<li>Gili Trawangan<\/li>\n<li>Gili Meno<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230719&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If you want to enjoy the beach or yoga, you&#8217;ll find what you&#8217;re looking for on Gili Air. It&#8217;s a place that offers a little bit of everything.<\/p>\n<p>Gili Trawangan or simply &#8220;Gili T&#8221; is the liveliest place to party. Gili T is also the place to see giant sea turtles while snorkeling or on the beach.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Gili Meno is the island for couples who prefer to relax in a beautiful setting and have a romantic getaway, far from all the party people. For a romantic getaway or honeymoon around <strong>Bali<\/strong>, my preference is Gili Meno.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p>What to do in Gili? Spend time in the water! The underwater life is very colorful!   Near Gili Meno, there&#8217;s an area with several underwater statues and lots of fish at Turtle Point.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230709&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230693&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The Nusa Islands&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;the_nusa_islands&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>The Nusa Islands, close to <strong>Bali<\/strong>, are a great alternative for those who don&#8217;t have time to go to the Gili Islands. A (very long) day trip can be done independently or on an organized tour. The largest and most visited island is Nusa Penida, followed by Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.<\/p>\n<p>The scenery is breathtaking; these small islands off <strong>Bali<\/strong> are simply stunning, with their lush greenery and turquoise seas. Underwater, the coral reefs are teeming with life too. If you&#8217;re lucky, you may even swim with manta rays and sea turtles.   However, the currents can be strong in this area.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230729&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>There are plenty of steep hikes in Nusa Penida, but your efforts will be rewarded with great panoramas or crystal-clear beaches.<\/p>\n<p>The most popular points of interest are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Angel&#8217;s Billabong<\/li>\n<li>Atuh Beach<\/li>\n<li>Broken Beach<\/li>\n<li>Crystal Bay<\/li>\n<li>Kelingking Beach<\/li>\n<li>Sampalan Beach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>My favorite viewpoint is the Thousand Islands Viewpoint and its T-Rex.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;230697&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Seminyak, Legian, Canggu and Kuta&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221; el_id=&#8221;seminyak_legian_canggu_and_kuta&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>To round off your vacation in <strong>Bali<\/strong>, spend a day or two in Seminyak, Legian, Canggu or Kuta; these places are very touristy, but they&#8217;re well located for a return trip home. Indeed, traffic in <strong>Bali<\/strong> can be quite heavy, so it&#8217;s best not to have to race to Nusa or Gili! <\/p>\n<p>There are lots of restaurants in this area, and the atmosphere is very Americanized; we only stayed for a day\/evening before catching our outbound flight, and spent most of our time at the spa being pampered and massaged!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;407730&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Organizing Your Trip to Bali&#8221; el_id=&#8221;organizing_your_trip_to_bali&#8221;][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;How to Get to Bali With Points&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221; el_id=&#8221;how_to_get_to_bali_with_points&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Although <strong>Bali<\/strong> is a <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/destination\/budget-travel\/\">budget travel<\/a> destination, this is not necessarily the case for airfare.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience, <strong>Bali<\/strong> is a place where it&#8217;s imperative to understand how the system works if you want to get by inexpensively; <strong>Bali<\/strong> &#8216;s airport is relatively close to all the Asian hubs: Hong Kong, Taipei, Kuala Lumpur, <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/destination\/travel-guide-singapore\/\">Singapore<\/a> and Bangkok.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text]<div class=\"wpb_content_element wpb_miles_element\">\t\t<div\n\t\t\t\tdata-template='s-h'\n\t\t\t\tdata-post_type='post'\n\t\t\t\tdata-per_page='4'\n\t\t\t\tclass='deferred_container--preload container_post container_template--s-h container_count--1'\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-tag=\"post_id\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tdata-post_ids=\"268204\"\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t>\n\t\t<article class=\"post-preview\">\n\t<div class=\"post-preview-thumbnail\">\n\t\t<div class=\"shimmer shimmer-image\"><\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\t<div class=\"post-preview-content\">\n\t\t<div class=\"simmer-bar-group\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"shimmer shimmer-bar\"><\/div>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"shimmer shimmer-bar\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/article>\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<\/div>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Aeroplan Points&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h4|text_align:left&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221; el_id=&#8221;aeroplan_points&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bali<\/strong> airport is served by a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/star-alliance-network-airlines\/\">Star Alliance<\/a> members, including <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=232376\">EVA Air<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/flights\/singapore-airlines-a350-business\/\">Singapore Airlines<\/a>, and since June 1, 2023 by Emirates <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aeroweb-fr.net\/actualites\/2023\/03\/emirates-va-lancer-le-premier-vol-en-a380-a-destination-de-bali\">A380<\/a> service.<\/p>\n<p>Economy-class flights are relatively easy to find on <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/best-credit-cards-in-canada\/aeroplan\/\">Aeroplan<\/a>but business class availability is rarer on partner airlines from Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>So if you&#8217;re aiming to travel to <strong>Bali<\/strong> in business class, you&#8217;ll need to get a head start and use tools like <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/guide\/tutorials\/use-expertflyer-flights-points\/\">ExpertFlyer<\/a> to find seats on the flights you want.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/news\/programs\/earn-redeem-aeroplan-points-emirates\/\">Members Aeroplan<\/a> will be able to combine flights with <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/news\/programs\/earn-redeem-aeroplan-points-emirates\/\">Air Canada and Emirates<\/a> to reach their destination with a stopover in Dubai.
