Then, during the rise of Christianity, people took refuge there to protect themselves<\/strong> from persecution and pagan invasions.<\/p>\n

There are about 200 cities<\/strong> that lie below the Cappadocia<\/strong> valley, but only about 30 have been discovered and excavated.
