From the sky, the stereotypical portrait of <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/news\/where-to-stay-mexico-city\/\">Mexico City<\/a>, which is often described as overcrowded, polluted, dangerous, appeared to me.<\/p>\n<p>I was impressed by this urban chaos; by the extent of this city located in the heart of an ancient lake. Hesitant, but curious in front of this megalopolis whose sprawling arteries slalom between volcanoes and evolve under a layer of poisonous mist.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160875&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]During my brief stopover at Mexico City&#8217;s Benito-Ju\u00e1rez airport, let&#8217;s just say that the meal from chef <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.americanexpress.com\/ca\/fr\/avantages\/gastronomique\/collection-gastronomique-mondiale\/enrique-olvera.html\">Enrique Olvera<\/a> served at the Centurion Club had pleased me a lot, and that it was just a taste, albeit a polished and sophisticated one, I grant you, of the authentic, chaotic and intoxicating Mexico City &#8211; or CDMX, the capital&#8217;s new name in effect since 2016.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;2\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160877&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/3&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160879&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]January 2020. It is by reading the travel guides <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/monocle.com\/shop\/product\/1328545\/the-monocle-travel-guide-mexico-city\/\">Monocle<\/a> and <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.editions-homme.com\/300-raisons-aimer-mexico\/marie-eve-parenteau\/livre\/9782761951760\">300 reasons to love Mexico<\/a> that a more realistic portrait of the Mexican destination takes shape for me, which seems to be one of the gastronomic capitals of America, and one of the most culturally effervescent cities. Yes, business class, without the points!<\/p>\n<p>However, the trip did involve a stopover in Toronto (on the way there and on the way back), but hey&#8230; we have to say that we love the airport <em>vibe<\/em> and enjoying the experiences that the <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/credit-cards\/the-platinum-card\/\">American Express Platinum Card<sup>&reg;<\/sup><\/a> and <em>lounges<\/em> offer, so we don&#8217;t mind the stopovers!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Short flight from Montreal to Toronto<\/strong> (and back). Despite the slightly faded and outdated condition of this A330, it&#8217;s still nice to be able to lie down for a shrimp cocktail on the way to Toronto. It goes by in a snap![\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160881&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<strong>Expedited passage<\/strong> through the Toronto airport with the <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/credit-cards\/the-platinum-card\/\">Platinum Card<sup>MD<\/sup> from American Express<\/a> that avoids the lines. Always nice during rush hour!<\/p>\n<p>A sweet moment of waiting in beautiful chairs at the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/?p=35899\"><strong>Maple Leaf Lounge, Toronto<\/strong><\/a>: access to the lounge is included, as we have a business class ticket. I love the elegance of the d\u00e9cor and the attention to service in <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"\/en\/?p=154606\">Centurion Lounges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the meal offered is signed by none other than Enrique Olvera, a prestigious Mexican chef. For in almost all of the hotel&#8217;s spaces, the visitor is on the border between light and shadow; invited to continually cross the threshold between the two.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><b>To the room<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We could go far in the symbolism, but architecturally speaking, the result is breathtaking. I&#8217;ll tell you about it!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>From the marble entrance hall, all lit up in white, tastefully decorated, to the <i>front desk<\/i> plunged into darkness, which contrasts with the warm and luminous reception, the old original screened lift leads to the rooms. The man drops off our suitcases, which we hadn&#8217;t touched since the airport, and fills us in on the architectural concept of the hotel opening in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Left to our own, we discover the small joys that the room offers: a long comfortable bench, technological accessories necessary for modern and trendy travellers, local toiletries, and a cozy bed whose sheets are manufactured here in Mexico, as are the towels!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160893&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;160895&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_rounded&#8221;][vc_column_text el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Two swing doors are pushed open to access the bathroom, which glows with white and contrasting wood accents. The shower: a favourite. Vast, made of white marble. Left abandoned for a few decades, it was redeveloped in the 2010s.<\/p>\n<p>Today, an entire team of women is at the helm of the building&#8217;s management.
