Between January 1 and December 31 of each year, you must stay at Marriott Bonvoy hotels to earn elite nights. Each night spent in a hotel is equivalent to one elite night. This will determine your status according to the following scale:   <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Member: 0 to 9 elite nights<\/li>\n<li>Silver: 10 to 24 elite nights<\/li>\n<li>Gold: 25 to 49 elite nights<\/li>\n<li>Platinum: 50 to 74 elite nights<\/li>\n<li>Titanium: 75 to 99 elite nights<\/li>\n<li>Ambassador: 100 + and USD 23,000 in expenses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At first, I was a Gold member (25 nights a year) thanks to my <a class=\"thirstylink\" title=\"American Express Platinum Card<sup>&reg;<\/sup>\" href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/go\/amex-platinum-card\/\">American Express Platinum Card<sup>&reg;<\/sup><\/a> which <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/credit-cards\/benefits-unique-platinum-american-express-card\/\">offers this status automatically<\/a>, then Platinum (50 nights a year).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve now been a Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite member (75 nights per year) for several years by focusing my stays at Marriott Bonvoy hotels.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>It will be difficult to achieve the supreme status of Ambassador (which requires 100 nights per year and <span class=\"nowrap\">USD 23,000<\/span> spent in the Group&#8217;s hotels during the year)! At check-in, you can choose between receiving 500 or 1,000 bonus points or getting complimentary breakfast. In my opinion, breakfast offers a better value. <\/p>\n<p>This complimentary daily meal for the member and one guest is available at Marriott, JW Marriott, Delta Hotels, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels, Sheraton, Le M\u00e9ridien, Westin, Four Points, Aloft, Protea Hotels, and Tribute Portfolio properties.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;58556&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_shadow&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Every day, I estimate I save between CAD 20 and CAD 40 per person on food. For a family of 4, this can represent more than CAD 150 per day of travel!<\/p>\n<p>On past trips, in certain hotels such as <a title=\"The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Puerto Rico\" href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/go\/marriott-sjuxr\/\" rel=\"noindex\">The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort hotel in Puerto Rico<\/a>, it added up to around CAD 50 per person.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>These are often large buffets that allow us to &#8220;hold on&#8221; until the end of the day! These lounges are often where you&#8217;ll have breakfast (if the hotel doesn&#8217;t have a restaurant). <\/p>\n<p>This is also where you&#8217;ll find drinks and snacks throughout the day, as well as evening buffets.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;73480&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_shadow&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>This is another great way to save on meals during your stay!<\/p>\n<p>Travelling as a family, we\u2019re rarely out of the hotel after 7 p.m., so it\u2019s convenient for us to stop by the lounge before heading back to our room.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;Annual Benefits&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;annual_benefits&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Platinum or Titanium status gives you access to a range of annual benefits.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as you reach Platinum status, Marriott Bonvoy offers you a gift to choose from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5 free upgrades to redeem <a href=\"\/?p=321227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(Nightly Upgrade Awards<\/a>)&nbsp;;<\/li>\n<li>Silver Elite status to gift to someone else;<\/li>\n<li>$1,000 off your favourite Marriott Bonvoy mattress;<\/li>\n<li>$100 in donations to selected charitable organizations;<\/li>\n<li>Addition of 5 elite nights for the qualifying year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Generally speaking, the obvious choice is the <strong>five free suite upgrades<\/strong>. This way, you are guaranteed &#8211; subject to availability &#8211; an upgrade to a suite for 5 nights in the year. However, as you\u2019ll see later, there are some limitations to this\u2026 but it\u2019s definitely possible to receive even more upgrades throughout the year!<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>If you have obtained Marriott Bonvoy&#8217;s Titanium Elite status (75 elite nights), Marriott Bonvoy asks you to make a choice of <strong>additional<\/strong> benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5 free upgrades to redeem <a href=\"\/?p=321227\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(Nightly Upgrade Awards<\/a>)&nbsp;;<\/li>\n<li>Silver Elite status to gift to someone else;<\/li>\n<li>$1,000 off your favourite Marriott Bonvoy mattress;<\/li>\n<li>$100 in donations to selected charitable organizations;<\/li>\n<li>5 elite nights for the qualifying year;<\/li>\n<li>Free night certificate worth up to 40,000 Marriott Bonvoy points<\/li>\n<li>Gold Elite status to gift to someone else.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;72816&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; add_caption=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; style=&#8221;vc_box_shadow&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Once, I had chosen 10 upgrades (choice of 5 + 5 upgrades) to use during the year.<\/p>\n<p>But by December, I still had upgrades available. Then I exchanged them during <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/hotels\/ac-hotel-bymarriott-cape-town-waterfront\/\">our stay in Cape Town<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>However, I\u2019ve almost always received an upgrade just by negotiating through the chat feature on the Marriott Bonvoy app.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s why, the following year, I chose the free night, which is much more valuable to me.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;High-speed Wi-Fi&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; el_id=&#8221;high-speed_wi-fi&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Having a status also means benefiting from free internet in all hotels. This is usually something that is accessible to most members of the Marriott Bonvoy program.<\/p>\n<p>However, here we&#8217;re talking about high-speed Internet, which is much more convenient for us.<\/p>\n<p>For example, at the <a title=\"Courtyard Siem Reap Resort\" href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/go\/marriott-repcy\/\" rel=\"noindex\">Courtyard Siem Reap Resort<\/a>, I had a better internet connection than in Montreal (400 Mbps in both directions).<\/p>\n<p>The standard internet was also good (100 Mbps), but this gives you an idea of the difference.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_custom_heading text=&#8221;The Partnership with Aeroplan&#8221; font_container=&#8221;tag:h3|text_align:left&#8221; css=&#8221;&#8221; el_id=&#8221;the_partnership_with_aeroplan&#8221;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221; el_class=&#8221;checkmarks&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>As a Titanium or Ambassador Elite member, you can enjoy status matching with Aeroplan and automatically receive Aeroplan 25K status. This benefit is available simply by <a href=\"https:\/\/travel-partner.marriott.com\/air-canada\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">linking your Marriott Bonvoy and Aeroplan accounts here<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll enjoy:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Priority check-in, boarding, and standby at the airport<\/li>\n<li>2 free checked bags<\/li>\n<li>eUpgrades Credits<\/li>\n<li>Choice of seats free of charge<\/li>\n<li>Priority Rewards<\/li>\n<li>Maple Leaf lounge passes, additional eUpgrades credits (to choose), etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This status match will be valid for at least 12 months, covering the current year and the entire following year. After this period, you\u2019ll need to qualify for Aeroplan 25K status on your own, according to Aeroplan\u2019s requirements.
