With approximately 1,500 properties worldwide, the network remains smaller than those of Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors. However, the value of its points and the quality of its elite benefits make it a favorite among points and miles collectors in Canada.

The program stands out with its published reward chart, a Globalist status considered the best in the industry, and a partnership with Chase Ultimate Rewards that opens the door to Canadians holding U.S. credit cards. This guide covers everything you need to know to get the most out of World of Hyatt.

Earning World of Hyatt Points

For Canadians, there are several methods to earn World of Hyatt points. Some involve direct stays, others through U.S. credit cards or purchasing points. Here are the details of each option.

Stays at Hyatt Hotels

All World of Hyatt members earn 5 points per US dollar spent on stays booked directly with Hyatt. Depending on your elite status, an additional bonus of 10%, 20%, or 30% applies to the eligible rate and incidental charges.

Eligible incidental charges include resort fees, spa, dining, minibar, laundry, and dry cleaning. However, expenses at non-hotel-operated businesses are not eligible.

    Direct Booking Required

To earn points and qualifying nights, you must book directly with Hyatt. Bookings made through third-party platforms (Expedia, Booking.com, etc.) do not qualify for points or your status benefits.

Chase Credit Cards

For Canadians, Chase card welcome offers are the most effective method to accumulate a significant volume of World of Hyatt points. Two families of cards deserve your attention.

First, cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards, transferable to World of Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio. Welcome offers for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Ink Business Cash typically range between 80,000 and 100,000 Ultimate Rewards points.

Next, co-branded World of Hyatt cards (Chase World of Hyatt Visa and Chase World of Hyatt Business Visa) offer more modest welcome bonuses, around 50,000 to 60,000 points. However, they include an annual free night at a Category 1-4 hotel and automatic Discoverist status.

Card

Earning at Hyatt

Other categories

Chase World of Hyatt Visa

4 points / US$

2 points / US$ on dining, airfare, local transit, gym. 1 point / US$ elsewhere.

Chase World of Hyatt Business Visa

4 points / US$

2 points / US$ in your top 2 categories per quarter. 1 point / US$ elsewhere.

When you pay for a Hyatt stay with a co-branded card, you combine the program’s 5 base points and the card’s 4 points, for a total of 9 points per US dollar spent. This is where these cards truly shine.

For the rest of your spending, Chase Sapphire or Ink Business cards offer better multipliers.

Consult the best World of Hyatt credit cards in the United States on Milesopedia USA.

    Accessing Chase Cards for Canadians

Chase cards require a U.S. credit history. You must first hold a U.S. American Express card (via Nova Credit or Amex Global Transfer) for at least one year and obtain an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number).

Chase Ultimate Rewards Transfers

Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer to World of Hyatt at a 1:1 ratio. The transfer is instant: your points appear in your Hyatt account in less than a minute. This is the most popular earning method for Canadian collectors.

World of Hyatt is also a 1:1 transfer partner of Bilt Rewards, a U.S. program. However, Canadians do not currently have easy access to the Bilt Mastercard.

Purchasing World of Hyatt Points

Hyatt allows you to purchase points at a base cost of 2.4 US cents per point. Three to four times a year, promotions offer a 25% to 30% bonus, reducing the effective cost to less than 2 cents per point.

The annual purchase limit is 55,000 points, often doubled to 110,000 points during promotions. The purchase is processed by Points.com and does not code as a travel expense. Use a card with a good base rate, ideally issued in the U.S. to avoid Canadian sales taxes.

Other ways to earn

American Airlines AAdvantage: Discoverist members and above earn 1 Hyatt point per US dollar spent on eligible American Airlines flights.

Avis Car Rental: 500 bonus points and up to 25% discount per qualifying rental (AWD code K817700).

Lindblad Expeditions Cruises: 5 points per US dollar spent, plus qualifying nights and a US$250 onboard credit.

FIND Experiences: 10 points per US dollar for activities such as cooking classes, hot air balloon rides, or guided tours.

Meetings and Events: 1 point per US dollar spent, up to 50,000 points per event.

Using Your World of Hyatt Points

The best use of World of Hyatt points remains free nights at Hyatt hotels and resorts. However, other redemption options exist for car rentals, spas, and experiences. Here are the details of each possibility.

Hyatt Reward Chart

World of Hyatt is one of the last major hotel programs to maintain a published reward chart. This is the main reason for its popularity among points collectors: you know in advance how much a free night costs.

Currently, Hyatt properties are classified into 8 categories (1 to 8). Each night is designated as off-peak, standard, or peak, which varies the points cost.

    Major Change in May 2026

Hyatt announced in February 2026 a revamp of its reward chart. In May 2026, the system will change from 3 tiers (off-peak, standard, peak) to 5 tiers (lowest, low, moderate, high, maximum). The 8 hotel categories remain the same. However, maximum prices will increase significantly, especially in Category 8 where the cost can reach 75,000 points per night (compared to 45,000 currently). Hyatt promises a gradual implementation in 2026, with a broader rollout in subsequent years.

Current Chart (until May 2026)

Category

Off-peak

Standard

Peak

1

3 500

5 000

6 500

2

6 500

8 000

10 000

3

9 000

12 000

15 000

4

12 000

15 000

18 000

5

17 000

20 000

25 000

6

21 000

25 000

30 000

7

25 000

30 000

35 000

8

35 000

40 000

45 000

New Chart (May 2026)

Category

Lowest

Low

Moderate

High

Maximum

1

3 000

4 000

6 000

7 500

9 000

2

5 500

7 000

10 000

12 000

15 000

3

8 000

10 000

15 000

18 000

21 000

4

10 000

13 500

19 000

22 000

25 000

5

14 000

18 000

25 000

30 000

38 000

6

18 000

23 000

32 000

38 000

44 000

7

22 000

27 000

38 000

47 000

55 000

8

30 000

37 000

50 000

62 000

75 000

Good news: free night certificates (Categories 1-4 and 1-7) remain valid for any night in the eligible category, regardless of the rate level. Furthermore, bookings made before May 2026 will be honored at the current rate.

All-Inclusive Resorts

Hyatt has over 100 all-inclusive resorts across nine brands, primarily in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. These properties follow a separate chart with 6 categories (A to F). Prices include accommodation for one or two people, with additional points for extra guests.

Miraval Resorts, Hyatt’s ultra-luxury all-inclusive brand, has its own chart. Its three properties (all in the United States) include a US$175 resort credit per person, dining, and wellness activities.

Points + Cash Option

If you lack enough points for a full free night, the Points + Cash option reduces the points requirement by 50%. You pay the balance in cash, at a rate 50% to 70% lower than the standard price. Before choosing this option, check if it is more advantageous to purchase the missing points during a promotion.

Other Uses of Points

Redemption

Cost

Value per point (US)

Hyatt Free Nights

3,000 to 75,000 points

~2 cents and up

Lindblad Expeditions

Variable

1.6 cents

FIND Experiences

1,000 to 200,000 points

1.4 cent

Spa and Dining

1,000 to 65,000 points

1.0 to 1.5 cents

Avis Rental

6,000 points / day

Variable

Meetings and Events

Variable

1.33 cents

Transfer to Airlines

5,000 points minimum

~0.8 cents

Transfer to Airlines

World of Hyatt allows points to be transferred to 25 partner airlines, at a 2.5:1 ratio (5,000 Hyatt points = 2,000 airline miles). A bonus of 5,000 miles is added for every 50,000 points transferred.

This option offers significantly lower value than free nights. Reserve it for situations where you need supplemental miles for a specific ticket. Also note that transfers take 6 to 8 weeks: they are not suitable for last-minute bookings.

World of Hyatt Elite Statuses

World of Hyatt offers four status tiers: Member, Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist. Unlike Marriott and Hilton, Hyatt status benefits are applied uniformly across all properties in the global network.

How to Obtain Status

Status

Qualifying Nights

Basic points

Spending (Meetings)

Discoverist

10 nights

25 000

n/a

Explorist

30 nights

50 000

n/a

Globalist

60 nights

100 000

US$20,000

Holders of a co-branded World of Hyatt card automatically receive 5 qualifying nights per year. These rewards begin at 20 nights and continue at every 10-night increment, up to 100 nights.

Milestone Rewards include bonus points, free night certificates, suite upgrades, and other benefits. It’s a way for Hyatt to reward members who exceed the Explorist threshold (30 nights) without reaching Globalist (60 nights).

Brand Explorer Program

Brand Explorer offers a free night at a Category 1-4 hotel when you stay at 5 different Hyatt brands. Your progress is never reset, and you can take several years to complete the challenge. With 28 brands in the Hyatt portfolio, you can potentially earn up to 5 additional free nights during your membership.

World of Hyatt News in 2026

Hyatt has announced several significant changes for 2026, beyond the reward chart revamp. Categories 2 and 5 will also see increases of over 50% at the maximum level.

Gradual Rollout: Hyatt promises that few properties will use the “high” and “maximum” tiers in 2026, with a broader expansion in subsequent years. However, the trend clearly indicates rising costs in the long term.

Value of World of Hyatt Points

A World of Hyatt point is worth approximately 2 US cents. This is the minimum threshold to aim for when redeeming for free nights. With the new 5-tier chart, redemptions at the “lowest” and “low” tiers will potentially offer even greater value than 2 cents, while the “high” and “maximum” tiers could dilute this value.

To maximize the value of your points, prioritize high-end properties where paid rates are high. Park Hyatt, Andaz, and Grand Hyatt in popular destinations often offer the best value-per-point ratios.

World of Hyatt vs. the Competition

Criteria

World of Hyatt

Marriott Bonvoy

Hilton Honors

Number of Properties

~1,500

~9,000

~7,800

Published Chart

Yes (5 tiers from May 2026)

No (dynamic pricing)

No (dynamic pricing)

Value per point

~2 US cents

~0.8 US cents

~0.5 US cents

Best Elite Status

Globalist (60 nights)

Ambassador (100 nights + US$23,000)

Diamond (60 nights or Aspire card)

Free Breakfast

Globalist only

Platinum and above

Gold and more

World of Hyatt compensates for its smaller network with significantly higher point value and more consistent elite benefits. Its published reward chart, even with the changes in May 2026, offers a predictability that Marriott Bonvoy and Hilton Honors no longer provide.

The optimal strategy for Canadians involves Chase Ultimate Rewards cards, whose points transfer at a 1:1 ratio. Combine this with purchasing points during promotions, and you will have enough points for memorable stays at the best Hyatt hotels worldwide.

To stay informed about program promotions and updates, subscribe to our newsletter.

     Ne ratez rien !

News, great deals, and updates directly to your inbox.

     Je m'inscris

World of Hyatt — Frequently Asked Questions

Do World of Hyatt points expire?

Yes, World of Hyatt points expire after 24 months of continuous inactivity.
