American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card

With this welcome offer for the American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card, you can earn up to 90,000 Aeroplan points. Here’s how:

  • Earn 5,000 Aeroplan points for each Additional Aeroplan®* Reserve Card with an annual fee added to your account at time of application, up to a maximum of 2 approved Additional Cards. That could add up to 10,000 Aeroplan points
  • Plus, you can also earn 7,500 Aeroplan points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $2,000 in net purchases on your Card for the first 6 months of Cardmembership. That could add up to 45,000 Aeroplan points
  • You can also earn 35,000 Aeroplan points when you spend $6,000 in net purchases between 13 and 16 months of Cardmembership

With this Card, you earn 3X the points on purchases made directly with Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations. And 2x the points on Dining and Food Delivery purchases in Canada. Everywhere else, you will earn 1.25X the points.

With this Card, you receive many Air Canada travel benefits such as access to Maple Leaf Lounges in North America for you and one guest, priority check-in, priority boarding and priority baggage handling.

Enjoy your first checked bag free (up to 23kg/50lb) for up to 9 people travelling on the same reservation on Air Canada®* flights.

Like all American Express Canada Cards, there is no minimum income requirement.

Our opinion on this Aeroplan offer

Up to 115,000 Aeroplan Points + Air Canada Benefits

If you’re a frequent Air Canada traveller and, therefore, an Aeroplan Member with an Elite status, this could be an excellent offer for you.

In addition to obtaining the best offer this year for the American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card (up to 115,000 Aeroplan points), you’ll become a holder of the only Aeroplan credit card to offer 3 points per dollar for all your purchases with Air Canada and Air Canada Vacations.

And you’ll earn 1,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and 1 Status Qualifying Segment (SQS) for every $5,000 of net purchases on your card. This can make a real difference if you travel regularly with Air Canada.

And by holding the American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Cardyou’ll enjoy premium benefits such as unlimited access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges in North America for you and a guest (including the new Aspire Air Canada Café or the new Maple Leaf Lounge in San Francisco), priority check-in, priority boarding and priority baggage handling.

20 eUpgrade Credits

Then, thanks to this limited-time Aeroplan offer, you’ll earn 20 eUpgrade credits. eUpgrade credits are convenient for upgrading an Air Canada ticket or an Aeroplan Flight Reward to the Premium Economy or Business Cabin.

For example, upgrading an Aeroplan Flight Reward on a flight between Canada and Europe will cost you only 11 eUpgrade credits. Like this direct Air Canada flight between Montreal and Nice:

In the example above, upgrading an economy ticket to business class costs 80,800 Aeroplan points + $67 taxes + 11 eUpgrade credits. This is still very interesting, given Air Canada’s dynamic pricing on this midsummer flight, booked just a few days before departure, with Business class at over 200,000 points!

You can then use the remainder of your eUpgrade credits to upgrade flights within North America. For example, an upgrade on a flight between Montreal and Vancouver costs just four eUpgrade credits:

15,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM)

Finally, as part of this limited-time Aeroplan offer, you can earn 15,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM).

This could eventually help you achieve or renew Aeroplan Elite status. Note, however, that you’ll also need to have met the Status Qualifying Dollars (SQS) criterion, i.e. the required spending level with Air Canada.

And that’s often the most challenging thing for travellers with points to achieve! For example, thanks to the many promotions in recent years, I was able to earn Aeroplan 75K Elite Status. And I’ve already earned 122,671 Status Qualifying Miles (a good portion of which have been rollover from 2022 thanks to my American Express® Aeroplan®* Business Reserve Card.

However, as you can see, I haven’t spent any money with Air Canada yet this year (the requirement to keep my Aeroplan 75K status is $9,000 SQD (or $20,000 SQD to upgrade to Super Elite status):

progression statut aeroplan 75k fr

So, as far as I’m concerned, this part of the offer isn’t very useful (and it’s likely to be the case for many travellers with points)!

On the other hand, this offer may be of interest if you are planning to achieve the SQD required by the end of the year to move up to a higher status, and are short of SQM or SQS (Status Qualifying Segments).

Bottom line

Once again, Aeroplan has found a way to innovate through a highly targeted partnership with American Express, one of the three Aeroplan credit card issuers, which will surely appeal to frequent flyers who have not yet taken the step of applying for a premium Aeroplan Card such as the American Express®* Aeroplan® Reserve Card

With a promotional offer running on this card until July 24, 2023, now is a great time to apply for it!
