Marriott Bonvoy™ Annual Choice Benefits

Marriott Bonvoy™ offers Elite members of level Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador the opportunity to select benefits for the upcoming year.

These benefits are in addition to those automatically available such as complimentary breakfasts or upgrades. The deadline to choose your benefits is January 7, 2023.

To achieve these status levels, you must have reached a minimum of 50 Elite-nights (Platinum) or 75 Elite-nights (Titanium and Ambassador) during the current year. However, you don’t need to have stayed that many nights:

Marriott Bonvoy™ has run several promotions, including one in early 2022 that doubled the number of nights stayed .
With the Marriott Bonvoy^MD American Express^MD* Card, you get 15 Elite Nights per year (just like the Marriott Bonvoy^MD Business American Express^MD* Card,)

For Platinum Elite members

As a Platinum Elite member, that is to say a member with at least 50 eligible nights in the previous year, you can choose one Annual Choice Benefit offered by Marriott Bonvoy™ :

Add five Elite Night Credits to your 2022 total.
Save 40% on a bed from your favorite Hotel Brand.
Gift Marriott Bonvoy™ Silver Elite Status to a family member, friend or colleague.
Donate US $100 to a charity foundation
Get five Suite Night Awards™ to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms.

REMINDER

These are benefits for 2022, not 2023. So, if you are short of Elite nights to reach a higher status, it might be worth adding 5 nights to your 2022 night total! But hurry: you have until January 7, 2023 to do so.

For Titanium Elite members

As a Titanium Elite member, that is to say a member with at least 75 eligible nights in the previous year, you can choose a second benefit among these Annual Choice Benefits offered by Marriott Bonvoy™:

One Free Night Award with a redemption value up to 40,000 Points.
Gift Marriott Bonvoy™ Gold Elite status to a family member, friend or colleague.
Get five Suite Night Awards™ to redeem for upgrades to suites and premium rooms.

REMINDER

These are benefits for 2022, not 2023. However, for the One Free Night Award, by choosing it between January 1 and 7, 2023, the certificate will be valid until December 31, 2024 (instead of 2023).

To choose your Annual Choice Benefit, you must log into your Marriott Bonvoy™ account on this page before January 7, 2023. A popup will appear explaining how many benefits you can select.

Please note that you have until January 7, 2023 to make your selection. I decided to wait until January 1, 2023, to make my second choice (Titanium).

Indeed, I already have 13 suite upgrades in my Marriott Bonvoy™ account: there is no need to add more at this time.

Especially as I always find a way to negotiate an upgrade via the chat without using those credits!

The 5 Elite Night Credits may be helpful for those who are near to achieving an Elite Status this year. This will not be my case: thanks to my Canadian and American credit cards, I had 30 Elite nights as of January 1st. And I added enough nights during the double Elite nights promotion to reach the 75-night mark.

As mentioned in a recent newsletter, analyze your needs before chasing an Elite status:

Yes, a Marriott Bonvoy™ status (Platinum and above) offers many benefits. But does the investment of staying in hotels for up to 35 nights (18 in the current promotion) make sense if you are not a business traveller?
Wouldn’t it be better to pay for your breakfasts or get a nicer room on your next trip? And focus on getting points rather than status?

As for the second choice offered to Titanium and Ambassador Elite members: no hesitation for me. It will be the Free Night Award with a redemption value up to 40,000 Points.

Indeed, the other choice is useless for people around me who already have the Gold Elite status by having the American ExpressPlatinum Card^® for example!

Here again, it is more relevant to make your choice between January 1 and January 7, 2023 knowing that this certificate will then be valid until December 31, 2024 (and not 2023 if chosen in 2022)! As I confirmed this January 1, 2023:

If you do not make your selection by January 7, 2023, you will automatically receive five Suite Night Awards™ as your Annual Choice Benefit as a Platinum, Titanium or Ambassador Elite member.
