Update April 27, 2023: The Expedia Rewards program will be replaced on July 6, 2023 by the Expedia Group’s One Key program. For full details on the new program, read the article below.
Expedia Rewards is for casual travellers who:
- don’t earn enough nights to get a status with a hotel program like Marriott Bonvoy
- want to book hotels, flight tickets, rental cars of their choice
- are interested in collecting rewards
- switch between Airbnb rentals and hotels

How to earn Expedia Rewards points?
Expedia Rewards program has two tiers for earning points:
Booking | Points |
Hotels, rental cars, cruises, vacation packages, activities | 2 points per dollar |
Flights | 1 point per $5 |
If you book with the mobile app, you’ll get double the points (but you won’t be able to get some cash back with shopping portals like Rakuten).
And if you have a status with Expedia Rewards, you’ll get more points:
- 10% more points for Silver members
- 30% more points for Gold members
As you can see, Expedia Rewards is not generous for flight tickets. But you can still add your frequent flyer number to your booking to earn miles. The few points you will earn with Expedia Rewards are just a bonus.
When it comes to hotels, if you book with Expedia, you will not be able to enjoy the benefits of your Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors status.

How to redeem Expedia Rewards points?
Expedia Rewards points value
You can redeem Expedia Rewards points at a rate of 140 points = $1.
So you’ll get the following rebates when you book with Expedia:
Booking | Cashback |
Hotels, rental cars, cruises, vacation packages, activities | 1.4 % |
Flights | 0.14 % |
However, you can twice the value of your points when you book a VIP Access hotel.
This can lead to an effective rebate of:
- 2.8% with Blue status
- 3.1% with Silver status (combined with the 10% more points for each booking)
- 3.7% with Gold status (combined with the 30% more points for each booking)

Using Expedia Rewards Points
To use your Expedia Rewards points, it’s easy: you can redeem the points on any new booking. There is no minimum or maximum amount.
The best Expedia Rewards points redemption is on VIP Access hotels since you get twice the value there.
Finally, it is also possible to get a Flight + Hotel coupon: for every 3,500 points, you’ll get a $25 coupon.

Bottom Line
Expedia Rewards is not the most profitable out there, but it is easy to use. This program is for occasional travellers who do not necessarily book in a branded-hotel or who wish to be free to choose the hotel they want.
Signing up for Expedia Rewards is free. If you do not earn or use any points for 18 months, your points will expire.
Finally, in our opinion, the best credit card to use for Expedia is the American Express Cobalt?
- 2 points per dollar for your travel purchases (including on Expedia.ca)
- Travel points you can apply on Expedia.ca reservations
- Reliable travel insurance
- No minimum income required
