Buy Flying Blue miles with a bonus
Until December 21, 2022, you can buy Flying Blue miles and get a bonus on your purchase of Flying Blue miles.
Please note: Flying Blue members can receive up to 100% bonus miles, but some lucky members have received a targeted offer of up to 120%. Check your email and the Flying Blue Miles purchase page to see which offer you qualify for.
Here is the price list:
Threshold | Bonus | Cost per mile (USD) | Cost per mile (CAD) |
4 000 – 10 000 | 50 % | 2.11 cents | 2.83 cents |
12 000 – 22 000 | 70 % | 1.79 cents | 2.40 cents |
24 000 – 100 000 | 100% or 120% | 1.525 cents or 1.31 cents | 2.05 cents or 1.76 cents |
For example, if you buy 100,000 Flying Blue Miles, you will earn a total of 200,000 Flying Blue Miles, or even 220,000 Miles if you have received the 120% target offer.
It will cost you 3,050 USD or approximately 4,090 CAD.

A credit card with no-FX fee
Since the purchase of Flying Blue Miles is charged in US dollars, it is advisable to use a credit card with no foreign currency transaction fees.
Here are 3 recommended cards:
Also, since the transaction is made through Points. com (a Canadian company), taxes are applied to this purchase.
If you have a U.S. credit card and/or a U.S. address, use it to avoid paying taxes.
Other ways to get Flying Blue miles
American Express Membership Rewards has been a partner of Flying Blue in Canada since this year. You can now transfer Membership Rewards points into Flying Blue miles. For example, you could transfer 50,000 Membership Rewards points earned with your American Express Cobalt® Card into 37,500 Flying Blue miles.
You can also earn Flying Blue miles with the Marriott Bonvoy program: 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points = 25,000 Flying Blue miles
Here are 2 Marriott Bonvoy credit cards:
Finally, it is possible to earn Flying Blue Miles directly with the new Flying Blue credit card issued by Brim. However, this card does not currently offer a welcome bonus and is therefore not very attractive.
Bottom line
Is it worth buying Flying Blue miles? As with any miles & points purchase, this will depend on the circumstances. You’ll need to decide based on the reward flights you plan to book soon.
The Flying Blue program does not have a fixed reward chart. On the other hand, you can get some good deals with the recurring event Promo Rewards.
For example, in October 2019, I was able to buy a business class flight from Toronto to Paris for only 32,000 one-way Flying Blue miles on the new Air France A350!

If I had bought Flying Blue miles as part of this promotion, that same flight would have cost me about 500 euros (plus taxes).
Also, it can be interesting for one-way or round-trip tickets in economy class between Montreal, Quebec, Toronto, Vancouver and Paris (or Amsterdam). Especially with the 25% discount on children’s reward tickets.
When you use Flying Blue Miles, your first checked bag is included (which is not necessarily the case with paid fares).
This promotion could be interesting for some situations!
