To the point Until June 25, 2025, WestJet is offering its members a 60% bonus when they purchase points. Here are the details and whether it's worth it.

WestJet Rewards is launching a special offer that will give you a 60% bonus when you purchase WestJet points. To take advantage of this offer, you must be a member of the loyalty program and go to the WestJet points purchase page. This offer ends on June 25, 2025.

Offer Details

WestJet Rewards members will earn a 60% bonus when they purchase WestJet points. The minimum purchase is 2,500 points and the maximum is 500,000 points.

For example, buying 10,000 WestJet points will cost you $200 and you’ll get 6,000 bonus points (60%):

You can purchase up to 500,000 WestJet points per calendar year.

For your information, sales taxes are added to the purchase price if you pay with a Canadian address. If you pay with a U.S. address, there are no sales taxes.

Please note: Purchases are made via Points.com, a site external to WestJet. This will not count as a qualifying purchase from WestJet.

Is the offer worth it?

The WestJet Rewards program is easy to calculate: according to Milesopedia’s semi-annual estimate, 1 WestJet point is worth 1 cent.

At the current price and with the 60% bonus on the purchase of WestJet points, each WestJet point costs you 1.25 cents ($200 divided by 16,000 points, according to the example above) before taxes. If you buy a WestJet point for more than 1 cent, it’s not worth it and you lose out. If you buy a WestJet point for less than 1 cent, enjoy!

Unfortunately, this promotion is not an attractive offer.

A better alternative would be to sign up for the WestJet RBC World Elite MasterCard to get the welcome offer that will save you money on your next WestJet flight and the following benefits:

With the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡, you can earn up to 70,000 WestJet points1 as a welcome bonus:

  • 30,000 WestJet points after your first purchase
  • 30,000 WestJet points when you spend $5,000 in the first three months
  • 10,000 WestJet points when you renew your card for a second year

With the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard, you receive a companion voucher3 redeemable for round-trip airfare at a discounted rate. What’s more, your purchases bring you one step closer to a status upgrade5 with WestJet.

Also, the primary cardholder and up to 8 guests benefit from free check-in of the first bag on WestJet flights.

With the WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard, you earn 2 WestJet8 points per dollar of purchase when you buy a flight, a WestJet or Sunwing vacation package, and 1.5 WestJet8 points on everyday purchases.

You also benefit from a wide range of insurance coverage18: Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance, Travel Accident Insurance, Trip Interruption Insurance, Flight Delay and Emergency Purchases Insurance, Hotel/Motel Burglary Insurance, Collision Damage Waiver for rental vehicles.

Bottom Line

This WestJet Rewards promotion is not advantageous according to our calculations. If WestJet Rewards follows the same trend of point purchase offers as other loyalty programs such as Aeroplan or Marriott Bonvoy, perhaps their next promotions will be worthwhile.

If you fly WestJet frequently, we recommend you apply for the WestJet RBC MasterCard or WestJet World Elite RBC MasterCard, to take advantage of welcome offers and enjoy a discounted next flight.
