Return of the Marriott Bonvoy Platinum/Titanium Breakfast for Elite Members

To the point Marriott has asked all of its North American hotels to resume the free breakfast benefit as of July 1st. Indeed, since the beginning of the pandemic, the chain's hotels had stopped or reduced several services offered to their members.

One of the benefits that suffered greatly was the free breakfast for Platinum and Titanium members at establishments that offered it. Marriott is no longer giving its hotels latitude and is now asking them to fully restore this benefit to their members.

Elite Membership Benefits

Lately, we have noticed that the quality of breakfast can vary greatly for an Elite member.

It could be a real hot meal (like at the Delta in Sherbrooke) or a brown bag with a few items (like at the Westin Resort Spa in Mont-Tremblant).

Or the hotel could decide not to offer breakfast at all and award points as a substitute. I experienced this situation at the Delta Hotel in Quebec City last month.

The reasons

For various economic and sanitary reasons, the hotels had closed the lounges reserved for their members with a high status. In addition, their restaurants offered little or no benefits. For this purpose, Marriott had dedicated a page on their website to warn customers about what was open or not.

As health restrictions ease across North America, the parent company decided there was no reason for its hotels to cut corners.

Conclusion

While many members of the Milesopedia community are getting ready to travel around Canada this summer – or possibly internationally depending on the end of quarantine for those vaccinated – this is good news, especially for Elite members travelling with their family because of the savings this benefit can help them achieve.

Especially since these “on-the-go” breakfasts generated a lot of waste, in addition to using single-use plastic.
