McDonald's restaurants are launching MyMcDonald's Rewards loyalty program to earn points on all menu items.
MyMcDonald’s Rewards replaces the McDonald’s mobile rewards program, where customers could earn rewards punches on hot McCafé drinks and French fries.
MyMcDonald's Rewards: How the program works
Currently, McDonald’s has a simple loyalty program for hot drinks and fries: McDonald’s Rewards.
With the help of its digital application, you can simply scan a QR code or place a mobile order. French fries and McCafé hot beverages in all sizes are the only eligible products. When you buy 7 of these products, the 8th one is free.
As of November 16, 2021, a new program will take over: MyMcDonald’s Rewards.
This program replaces the McDonald’s Rewards program. From now on, ALL products in restaurants are eligible.
However, the following expenses do not count:
- Taxes and other products (cups, bottles, etc)
- McDonald’s Gift Card or when reloading the balance on a McDonald’s card (points will be earned on a qualifying purchase)
- Delivery
For each purchase, customers scan a MyMcDonald’s Rewards QR code. It can be a digital kiosk order in a restaurant, at the drive-thru or at the counter.
With this QR code, you will earn 100 points with every $1 spent.
First-time customers get 5,000 bonus points after their first transaction with a minimum $1 purchase.
Customers can download the McDonald’s mobile app, register and activate their account. If they already have the mobile application, they don’t have to do anything.
MyMcDonald's Rewards: how to use points
A minimum of 2,000 MyMcDonald’s Rewards points is required to initiate a product redemption. The different levels are :

So, if you sign up for the MyMcDonald’s Rewards program with the 5,000 point bonus, you’re already almost to level 3. Then it would only take $10 in purchases and an additional 1,000 points to get there.
In everyday spending, you’d have to spend $140 to reach level 5 and get your ten pieces of McNuggets with honey sauce for free, for example!
Rewards Punches Conversion into points
For those who have already earned rewards punches with the old program, a credit of 300 points ($3 value) per punch is given, for a maximum of 1,800 points.
If you still have a free drink or paper cards (do they still exist?) to claim, you’ll need to do so before February 28, 2022.

To make the most of this MyMcDonald’s Rewards program, you can use some credit cards that will give you even more rewards for restaurant expenses.
You will have a double-dipping: you will earn MyMcDonald’s Rewards points AND points on your credit card !

Conclusion
This new MyMcDonald’s Rewards program is designed for Canada only. Indeed, it is different from the programs launched in the United States, the United Kingdom or France. Even if they look alike, they are not compatible with each other.
The big losers may be McCafé hot beverage drinkers. While they had to buy 7 drinks to get one free, they will have to spend at least $20 (at least 14 small coffees at $1.49 for example) in the future to get their freebie.
