COVID-19: Rapid Testing Pilot Program At Montreal-Trudeau YUL!

According to our sources, as part of phase 2 of the pilot project, COVID-19 tests are planned with results within 72 hours on arrival at YUL.

The date for the implementation of phase 2 is not yet known. But YUL said:

This initiative is one of several pilot projects already underway across the country, including one conducted by Alberta and federal public health agencies at the Calgary airport to reduce the 14-day mandatory quarantine for travellers entering Canada. ADM is in discussion to eventually offer the same type of tests on arrival.

We are pleased to see Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL) taking the lead with this initiative. It must be said that YUL’s hub has been at the forefront since the beginning of COVID-19, having multiplied its actions so that its customers travel with confidence.

I have experienced this myself many times and have compared my experience with other airports in Canada and around the world. This allows me to affirm my full confidence in the measures taken by YUL!

There is no doubt that these initiatives are being taken in consultation with different actors:

  • Airlines (who want a relaxation of the quarantine)
  • Provincial authorities (who currently do not encourage travel)
  • Federal authorities (who wish to set up such pilot programs prior to vaccine deployment)

It is therefore not surprising to see these projects take time. But we can only applaud all the efforts made to facilitate travel, which is essential not only to the economy but also to the well-being of separated families worldwide.

It should be recalled that at present, the 14-day quarantine is MANDATORY and has been extended until January 21, 2021.
