Bamboo Airways: New Aeroplan partner

To the point Aeroplan members can now earn and redeem Aeroplan points with Vietnamese airline Bamboo Airways.

New Air Canada Partner

Bamboo Airways is the newest Aeroplan partner! This Vietnamese airline follows a long list of new Aeroplan airline partners over the past two years: SunExpress, Aeromar, Air Mauritius, Oman Air, Gulf Air, Eurowings Discover, Air Dolomiti, Virgin Australia, Vistara, Azul, Air Serbia, Etihad.

You can use points to travel with Bamboo Airways starting November 8, 2022.

Bamboo Airways serves about 30 destinations with about 30 aircraft, including some Boeing 787-9s for long-haul flights.

The B787 business class product offers aisle access to all passengers and is similar to what you are used to on Air Canada or Air France.

How to earn and redeem Aeroplan points with Bamboo Airways

Redeem Aeroplan points with Bamboo Airways

Here are the details you need to know when booking Aeroplan flight rewards on Bamboo Airways:

  • Flights are priced according to Aeroplan’s airline partner pricing
  • Members will be able to book Bamboo Airways flights on aircanada.com, on the Air Canada mobile app or through the Aeroplan Centre
  • These flights may be combined with flights operated by Air Canada or other international airline partners

Here is the price list in the Pacific zone:

According to the Aeroplan flight reward chart and a quick calculation via the GCMAP tool, here are examples of fares you can get with Bamboo Airways using your Aeroplan points:

Departure Arrival Distance Cost in Aeroplan points
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) Bangkok (BKK) 454 miles 8,000 points
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) Singapore (SIN) 675 miles 8,000 points
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) Hanoi (HAN) 717 miles 8,000 points
Hanoi (HAN) Taipei (TPE) 1016 miles 12,500 points
Hanoi (HAN) Seoul (ICN) 1667 miles 12,500 points
Hanoi (HAN) Tokyo (NRT) 2313 miles 25,000 points
Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) Sydney (SYD) 4246 miles 25,000 points
Hanoi (HAN) Frankfurt (FRA) 5422 miles 50,000 points
Hanoi (HAN) London Gatwick (LGW) 5749 miles 50,000 points

As you can see, most local flights will be priced at 8,000 points as this is a flat rate for Aeroplan partners and short-distance flights.

However, for the flight from Hanoi to Frankfurt or London in Europe, switching from one zone to another (Pacific to Atlantic) increases the cost to 50,000 points in economy and 80,000 points in business class. It may then be more interesting to include this trip in an international flight with an Aeroplan stopover.
