Guide: Save on parking at Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa, Plattsburg and Burlington airports

To the point Our best tips for saving money on parking at Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa and some U.S. airports near the border.

This post is also available in: FR

How to save on airport parking? This question comes up periodically on the Milesopedia Facebook group. The expense is indeed unavoidable unless we have someone to drop us off and pick us up. So let’s look at the different strategies that can help us reduce these costs on or near the site.

Parking at the airport itself

YUL - Parking at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport

There are eight parking lots managed by Aéroport International Montréal-Trudeau(YUL): EconoParcs (5), ValetParc, HotelParc (Marriott) and Étagé. The short-term parking lot is currently closed for renovations.

Prices range from $30 to $50/day, depending on services (valet), whether the area is covered or not, and proximity to the terminal. If you hold a Visa Infinite Privilege Credit Card such as the TDMD AéroplanMD Visa Infinite Privilege* Card or the BMO eclipse Visa Infinite Privilege* Card, you may qualify for a 10% discount on valet parking.

It’s one of the most expensive, but it’s the closest! This is the indoor parking lot of the Marriott Terminal Aéroport de Montréal hotel.

For $45 a day, travelers can leave their coats and boots behind and take the escalator to the terminal. There is also a charging station for electric vehicles and the premises are secure.

The cheapest option is the furthest away: Econoparc P6, P7, P8 and P9 at $30 per day.

Take advantage of our partner offers!

A partnership with Aeroplan allows you to earn between 100 and 1,000 points when you use any of these airport parking spaces. Don’t forget to write down your number when you make your reservation.

CAA-Quebec is also a parking partner at Montreal-Trudeau International Airport (YUL). The company is offering a 10% discount on regular fares and online bookings. As long as the parking lot is used for 48 hours or more.

Discounts with CAA-Quebec

In addition, if you are a CAA-Quebec member, you get a 10% discount.

Finally, if you have The National Bank’s World Elite Mastercard®, you have an annual travel credit of $150, including airport parking fees. This is one of its many advantages.

YQB : Parking at Quebec City airport

For travelers, YQB has two parking lots at Quebec City’s Jean Lesage International Airport. Exterior parking and a five-storey parking deck.

Outdoor parking costs :

  • $ 89 for 8 days
  • $ 152 for 14 days

In addition, it is possible to prepay for parking online. The multi-storey car park closest to the terminal costs $155 for 7 days.

Flo 240V charging stations (level 2) are located on floor #1 of the parking garage. Charging is $1 an hour, and they are not long-term parking spaces.

YOW: Parking at the Ottawa airport

There are two parking options.

At YOW, the P1 multi-storey car park is covered. The fee is :

  • $ 24 per 24-hour period
  • $ 25 per 24-hour period, starting January 1, 2024

There are free 110V wall outlets (level 1) for vehicle charging. There are no Level 2 (240v) charging stations in the Ottawa Airport parking lots.

There is also P4 long-term parking. The fee is :

  • $ 19 per 24-hour period ($20 as of January 1, 2024)
  • $ 87 per 7-day period ($92 as of January 1, 2024)
  • $ 174 per 30-day period ($184 as of January 1, 2024)

PBG - BTV: Parking at Plattsburgh and Burlington airports

Some people decide to fly out of Plattsburgh airport in New York State.

They then benefit from substantial discounts to Orlando or Las Vegas, for example, by opting for a discount airline like Breeze Airways.

Others choose the Burlington, Vermont airport. American Airlines, Delta and United operate flights to major US cities.

Parking at these airports is less expensive than in Montreal and Quebec City. The cost of parking in Plattsburgh is $10 per day for a maximum of 60 days.

In Burlington, it’s $12 a day (no maximum days mentioned). Moreover, it is covered.

Of course, we are talking about American currencies (it will be interesting to use a credit card that does not charge conversion fees)!

There is another alternative to paying for parking near the airport.

The site ParkSleepFly lists hotels near airports that offer parking for the duration of our trip when we stay there one night before leaving or when we return. A shuttle bus will take care of us to get to and from the airport. For a maximum of 14-21 days, depending on the hotel.

However, take the time to check if there is any kind of surveillance system installed in this parking lot. A padlocked gate? An employee? Cameras?

$ 150 parking reimbursement with this credit card

The National Bank’s World Elite Mastercard® is the only credit card in Canada to offer up to $150 in travel credit each year, for baggage fees, seat selection and… for airport parking!

As a cardholder, you could easily get a $150 credit on your airport parking fees each year. This is one of the best World Elite Mastercard credit cards, offering unlimited access to the National Bank Lounge and excellent insurance for your travel and purchases.

The procedure is fairly straightforward. We pay for parking with this card and then claim the reimbursement on NBC Card Rewards to get this advantageous travel credit.

Parking around airports

Via Rail's Dorval Station parking lot

The Via Rail Dorval station also offers an opportunity to save on parking at the YUL airport for a short stay.

A shuttle bus will then take you to the terminal. The cost is $100 for a spot in the outdoor parking lot for 7 days and $17 per additional day. 24/7 service.

Parking comparators near airports

Several sites list and compare airport parking lots.

In Canada and the United States, there are Airport Parking Reservations and AirportParking.com. The hotel parking offer on this site does not require you to stay overnight. A shuttle system is included for both the outward and return journeys. The service says it only puts secure parking online.

I have also selected two offers that seem to me to be the best and safest according to the comments made:

stationnement aéroport

The Park'N Fly service

Several parking lots near airports, such as Park’N Fly, offer their services with 3 parking lots: Valet, Express Parking A and B.

In winter, a valet service, if you opt for this avenue, takes care of clearing snow from the car and keeping it warm, while the shuttle brings you back from the airport in 10 minutes. The vehicle is even fully recharged free of charge.

Park N Fly stationnement

Parking included before/after a night at the hotel

Book a night before you leave or when you return from your trip, then leave your vehicle at the hotel! However, it is possible to do so for a period of one to two weeks, rarely longer.

But please, find out what security measures are in place and read the comments on the web from customers who have been there before you. Vehicle theft is not something that sometimes happens in this area.

The Park’N Fly app is a good source of information to support you in your search.

In Quebec City, Hotel Jaro |Must has interesting “Stay, Park, Fly” packages starting at $156.

Finally, we suggest you take a look at Tuango, which in the past has had good night + parking offers. However, if it is a Marriott property, the night will not count as an Elite night and the status may not be honored (i.e. breakfast included).

Our other tips for saving on airport parking rates

Public transport to/from the airport

Quebec City residents, like those in the Ottawa area who have to fly to Montreal, can choose to take the bus or train to YUL.

Orléans Express runs a bus from Quebec City (downtown) to Montreal-Trudeau International Airport twice a day. The cost is $86 one way, per person.

In addition, Orléans Express offers 4 trips a day to Montréal-Trudeau, for around $57 per person, per way.

Via Rail’s Discount Tuesdays promotion can save you money on your train journey. The cost is $42 per person per trip for Québec-Dorval and $41 per person per trip for Ottawa-Dorval. Then simply take the free Via Rail shuttle directly to the airport.

Stationnement aéroport

In addition, because train and bus schedules are not aligned with airplane schedules, travelers must stay overnight in a hotel before or after the trip. There will be some calculations to do. And then it can be advantageous to redeem points for free hotel nights.

Finally, let’s add to the public transit chapter:

  • Shuttle 747, linking downtown Montreal to YUL, 24/7 for $11 per trip.
  • the Aeronavette , which leaves from Sherbrooke and stops at several towns in the Eastern Townships and Montérégie. The 24/7 round trip service costs between $100 and $152 + taxes. Moreover, it adapts to our flight schedule.

Car rental from/to the airport

One of our smart readers has access to a car rental branch (Review, Budget or others) near his home and suggested this:

I rent a car from Budget and leave it at the airport. It costs me about $35 to $40 each time I go away for a month. I don’t have to worry about my car staying at home and when I come back, I do the same thing. I return the car to the rental agency the next day.

Find out if it’s worth using or earning AIR MILES miles / Aeroplan points through their portals.

Finally, a reminder that UBER, private drivers and cabs also exist. These are sometimes the most appropriate and least restrictive strategies.

Other strategies

To make your trip more enjoyable, there is a baggage and coat check service at YUL airport that is open 24/7.

For $30 (for one person) or $60 (for two adults and two children), you can leave your coat and boots here for a week. It is located near the Tim Hortons in the flight arrival area.

Do you know Lanla? This is a marketing and consumer psychology company. If you are accepted as a mystery shopper, you may be asked to do a small investigation in exchange for $100 off your parking or to pay for part of your meal at one of the airport’s restaurants.

Finally, let’s finish with another application that will allow you to find not only parking at the airport but also a place to park. In big cities, this can come in handy. This is Best Parking.
