American Express Fixed Points Travel Program has a reward chart for some economy flights:

To book this type of flight, you will have to go to the American Express Voyages portal.
Let’s take the example of a round trip flight between Montreal and New York.
In this example, the flights costs $462.87.
Here, with the Fixed Points Travel Program, you can redeem 15,000 Membership Rewards points and pay $162.87 in taxes.
Thus, with 15,000 Membership Rewards points, you save $300.
So 1,000 Membership Rewards points = $20.
American Express Flexible Points Travel Program
With Flexible Points Travel Program, you can redeem your Membership Rewards Points to fully pay for the flight, or part of it, including taxes, fees and carrier surcharges, based on a ratio that entitles you to a $10 statement credit per 1,000 points.
Let’s take the same round trip between Montreal and New York with the Flexible Points option.
In this example, the flight still costs $462.87.
Here, with the Flexible Point Travel Program, you can redeem 46,287 Membership Rewards Points to cover the full price of your flight.
To compare with Fixed Points, with 15,000 Membership Rewards Points, you save $150.
So 1,000 Membership Rewards Points = $10.

You can redeem Membership Rewards points as a statement credit for any travel purchase charged to your Card.
Here, 1,000 Membership Rewards Points = $10.

Annual Fee Statement credit
A little-known option: redeem your Membership Rewards Points as a statement credit for your Card Annual Fee.
For example, after renewing your American Express® Gold Rewards Card,you could redeem 15,000 Membership Rewards Points as a statement credit for its $150 annual fee.
Here, 1,000 Membership Rewards = $10.
You can redeem your Membership Rewards Points on American Express’ online store. The first option is gift cards. There are dozens of them.
For example, an Air Canada gift card:
You could redeem 13,000 Membership Rewards Points for a $100 gift card.
Here, 1,000 Membership Rewards Points = $7.70
The second option on the American Express store is for products. Hundreds of them exist.
This toaster costs $75 in stores.

With the American Express® Gold Rewards Card, you get great insurance!
Car Rental Theft and Damage Insurance
Out-of-province or country emergency medical insurance (under 65)
Save when you travel with the flight and damage Insurance for rental cars included with your Card This insurance provides compensation for theft, loss and damage up to the market value of the rental car with a maximum MSRP of $85,000 depending on the year of the model.
To take advantage of this benefit, you simply need to refuse loss or damage protection or any other similar option offered by the rental company and bring the entire rental to your Card. This insurance is available at no extra cost and you do not have to pay the insurance charged by the car rental company (usually costing between $16 and $23 per day).
Can provide coverage of up to a maximum of $5,000,000 for eligible emergency medical expenses incurred by an insured person under age 65 while travelling outside your Canadian province or territory of residence for the first 15 consecutive days of a covered trip.
Baggage delay insurance
Having booked your flight with your Card you may receive up to $500 (maximum in combination with Flight Delay Insurance) for any necessary and reasonable routine purchase of clothing and small items considered essential that you will make in a four days delay,if your luggage is not returned to you within six hours after your departure flight arrives.
Lost or Stolen Baggage Insurance
If you carry the full amount of your airfare to your Card you are insured in case of loss or damage of your personal belongings, carry-on baggage or checked baggage while travelling up to $500 per trip for all policy holders.
Flight delay insurance
Charge your airline tickets to your Card and get up to $500 (maximum in combination with misdirected baggage insurance) for any necessary and reasonable expenses incurred within 48 hours at the hotel, motel or restaurant, or for small items, if your flight is delayed or you are denied boarding for four hours or more without making any other means of transportation available to you.
$500,000 Travel Accident Insurance
Travel accident insurance gives you automatic coverage of up to $250,000 for accidental death and dismemberment for yourself, your spouse and dependent children under the age of 23 years when you are travelling on a public carrier (plane, train, boat or bus) and carry the full price of all Tickets to your Card. Supplementary card holders, their spouses and dependent children under the age of 23 are also covered.
Hotel or motel burglary insurance
Simply pay for your hotel or motel room with your card and you will receive coverage of up to $500 in case of loss of most personal belongings in the event of a burglary at your hotel or motel room.
Buyer’s Assurance® Protection Plan
Eligible items purchased on your card may be insured for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase against accidental property damage and theft up to a maximum of $1,000 per claim (all items purchased combined).
Purchase Protection Guarantee
Your coverage can automatically extend the manufacturer’s initial warranty up to an additional year when you carry all eligible items to your Card.
The American Express® Gold Rewards Card is, in my opinion, the best flexible rewards Card to quickly earn transferable points.
It is accessible to almost everyone (no minimum income required), and you can quickly earn miles & points for a future trip!
